Location and Places to Visit Remungol is a small rural village without pretensions, unspoilt, and off the tourist map. The area is ideal for rambling or cycling through the peaceful woods and surrounding countryside. The village has three shops, a post office and a local restaurant which only serves lunch-time meals but attracts a large working French clientele - extremely good value. For banks, supermarkets and a variety of shops the market town of Locmine is less than ten minutes drive to the south. Excellent roads give stress free connections to the North Brittany coastal ferry ports of St Malo (one and a half hours), Roscoff (two hours) Caen (three hours) and Cherbourg (three and a half hours). Beyond the immediate location and within an hour's drive, expeditions can be made to many interesting places. Pontivy, twenty minutes to the north, is an attractive bustling town with a good range of restaurants and shops. Josselin is principally a tourist town with the famous fortified castle overlooking the River Oust which forms part of the Nantes a Brest Canal. Vannes, the principal city of the Morbihan, has a famous old town with all manner of interesting streets and boutiques - it is host to a variety of music festivals. Auray has a beautiful old port while for the adventurous the Quiberon Peninsula offers surfing on the Côtes Sauvages. The megaliths at Carnac represent the remnants of an ancient Breton culture which excite historians and spectators alike. The Gulf du Morbihan is a centre for water based recreation second to none with ferries to the offshore islands of Belle Ile, Hoaut and Hoedic. Swimming, boating or simply being on the water; you will find there is something for everyone and space to enjoy it all. The choices for exploring are endless and holidaymakers will enjoy the friendly and helpful suggestions of the Breton people whichever direction they decide to take. |
